PRE-BOND PREPARATION AND PRIME
primed skins example

Poly-Metal Finishing Inc. is one of the few companies in the country approved by Sikorsky Aircraft and Boeing to do preparation and pre-bond priming.

Some of the specifications utilized most by Poly-Metal Finishing Inc. are:
  •   Sikorsky - SS8752, SS8442, SS8778, SS8607, SS8603, SS8612 and SS8446 to name a few
  •   Boeing - HP4-100, HP4-35 and HP4-57 to name a few
(If not listed, please call with your specification needs and we will be happy to let you know if we are approved to do that specification.)

Pre-bond primer provides a superior surface treatment prior to bonding and can be applied to a variety of materials.

Headuardo---Aluminum---
Pre-bond priming utilizing the anodize process can only be applied to Aluminum alloys. Although most Aluminum alloys can be processed, those with a low copper content (less than 3.5%) and a low silicon content(less than 5%) are recommended. (We’ve found that the best results occur using 6061, 7075 wrought alloys, 2024 Alclad, 355,356 cast alloys and 319 die cast alloys.) After anodize, primer is applied within 4-8 hours.

---Stainless Steel---
Typically Stainless Steel alloys are vapor blasted (per SS8442) and then sulfuric acid etched (per SS8778). After rinsing and drying, the parts are primed within 4 hours. Most common alloys include 17-4PH, and 301/302 SS series.

---Titanium, Nickel, Brass, Copper, Tungsten Steel and composites---
The above listed materials may be blasted and/or cleaned (per SS8752) and pre-bond primer applied within 1 hour. (Please call for additional materials not previously listed.)

The most utilized primers at Poly-Metal Finishing Inc. are (but not limited to):
      EC-3917, BR6747-1, and BR-127 primers.
Poly-Metal Finishing Inc. may not stock your specific primer but may be able to prepare your material and apply primer, supplied by you the customer, to your desired specifications and/or requirements.

Other services provided by Poly-Metal Finishing Inc.:
  •   FPL etching and pre-bond prime
  •   Phosphoric Anodizing of Aluminum parts (on a limited basis)
  •   Vapor Blasting of materials to Sikorsky Specifications
  •   Masking of parts:
Poly-Metal Finishing Inc. offers excellent masking services. Parts which require pre-bond primer, may be masked to provide bare, alodine, or chromic surfaces in specified areas.

Overhaul and Repair:
Poly-Metal Finishing Inc. utilizes Sikorsky specifications on overhaul and repair parts. Local areas or entire parts (when prepared properly) may be Chromic Acid Anodized, cleaned, or alodined and then pre-bond primer applied.
(please note that Aluminum parts containing dissimilar metals such as steel helicoils, bushings, etc. can be masked using the best techniques, but can only be done at the customers risk with a signed waiver.)

Test Panels:
Poly-Metal Finishing Inc. supplies 2 types of test panels to bonding houses.
  •   3 Finger Panels per SS9226 Type III chromic anodized and primed with EC-3917 primer on 1 side
